Questions
Frequently asked
What is Venetian plaster?
A lime-based finish applied by trowel in thin, burnished layers. Systems like Grassello Lucido use ultra-fine, micro-filtered lime putty to create the depth, movement and mirror sheen of polished stone — a living surface that paint cannot replicate, and one that hardens over time as the lime carbonates.
How durable is microcement?
Extremely. Once sealed, microcement resists water, stains and daily wear — which is why it is used on floors, bathroom walls, benchtops and busy commercial spaces. For heavy-duty applications we specify the Forcrete range: Micro-Quartz for walls and floors, Trowel-X for floors.
Can microcement be applied over tiles?
Yes. Microcement bonds over existing tiles, plaster, concrete, laminate and most stable substrates. In bathrooms we detail a 3mm stainless-steel trim above the tile line as a mechanical break, so silicone can be renewed for life without cutting into the finish.
Is Venetian plaster waterproof?
Lime plaster is naturally moisture-tolerant, and for wet areas we specify dedicated systems — Marmorino Floor, Microcement and the waterproof synthetic Microsynth Marble — each engineered for bathrooms and showers.
Are these finishes really healthier than paint?
Yes. Lime finishes are extremely low in or free of VOCs, naturally breathable, and their high alkalinity makes the surface inhospitable to mould, mildew, bacteria and dust — without chemical additives. See our Benefits page for the full picture.
How long does installation take?
Most feature walls take two to four days; a full microcement bathroom typically takes five to eight days including curing and sealing. We confirm a precise program at quotation and hold to it.
How many colours are available?
Over 1,950 colours in the standard range — plus advanced colour-lab matching to leading Australian paint colours, tile, stone or marble. Every colour is confirmed on a physical sample board in your own light before application.
How much does decorative plaster cost?
Pricing depends on the system, surface area, substrate condition and detailing. Specialist finishes are quoted per square metre following consultation and sample approval — request a quote and we will provide a clear, itemised proposal.
How do I maintain these finishes?
Very simply. Dust with a soft cloth and clean with a damp cloth and pH-neutral soap. Sealed microcement cleans like stone; waxed Venetian plaster can be re-buffed over the years to renew its sheen.
